Quiet Sparks
Writing Programme

Some children don’t struggle with imagination. They struggle with environment.

Is your child shy, quiet, and happiest when lost in the worlds they create?
Do they dream up stories but struggle to share them aloud?

Welcome to the Quiet Sparks Writing Programme™.

A 12-week, email-based mentorship for thoughtful young storytellers aged 9–16. Through my Gentle Pen Method™, young writers explore their creativity in a safe, supportive space – free from the pressure of group workshops or live online sessions.

For children whose imagination is loud even if their voice is quiet.

Programme Overview

Personalised Feedback. Guided Mentoring. Creative Confidence

In the Quiet Sparks Writing Programme, children explore their creativity using the Gentle Pen Method – a thoughtful approach that helps young writers develop their storytelling skills with clarity and confidence.

Younger writers join Scribble Squad™ (ages 9–12), while teens join Word Rebels™ (ages 13–16).

Both programmes introduce the craft of storytelling step by step, giving your child a dedicated space to explore ideas, try new techniques, and play with their imagination. Through thoughtful, developmental feedback and gentle mentoring, they learn to craft richer stories, organise their ideas more clearly, and discover their own distinctive voice – all within an encouraging environment.

Your Child’s Story, Their Way
Children can either develop a brand new story during the programme, or build upon/revise one they’ve already started or completed. Whichever they choose, they’ll learn the building blocks of storytelling – planning, character development, opening hook, dialogue, tension, and much more.
Whether starting from scratch or refining an existing project, I’ll tailor my support to their progress, helping them strengthen their skills and develop their story. There’s no one right way to work here – just the way that works best for them.

Limited Places, Individual Attention
With limited places per age group, every child receives thoughtful, one-to-one attention from an editor and author who is also a professional member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). The focus isn’t just on improving technique, but on building confidence, nurturing creativity, and supporting long-term growth as a writer.

Parent Partnership
All submissions are made via the submissions portal and feedback delivered to a parent or guardian’s email, so you remain aware of your child’s progress and can cheer them on along the way. This approach ensures communication is safe, appropriate, and always guided with parental oversight.

How it works

Each programme runs for 12 weeks and follows a clear submission schedule:

💎 Scribble Squad: Weekly submissions (up to 1,000 words)

💎 Word Rebels: Fortnightly submissions (up to 2,000 words)

Writers receive detailed, personalised feedback within 3 days.

No live online sessions. No fixed call times. No group performance pressure. No speaking in a room full of peers.
Just steady, professional feedback delivered in a way your child can absorb in their own time.

This approach allows your child the time and space to:

☑️ Reflect before submitting
☑️ Absorb feedback thoughtfully
☑️ Revise with confidence
☑️ Develop their skills steadily over time

What’s Included

💠 Feedback galore: Using the Gentle Pen Method, I’ll read, comment, and cheer your child on as they navigate twists, turns, and epic word wizardry. Each cycle focuses on the craft of writing – strengthening ideas, shaping paragraphs, refining voice, deepening description, and developing storytelling skills –with inline and margin comments on the story document itself. Spelling, punctuation and grammar are addressed where needed, but they are never the main focus. Alongside this, your child receives a friendly newsletter-style feedback report packed with:

🔹 Highlights of your child’s strengths

🔹 Focused craft development points

🔹 Small, optional writing challenges

🔹 Reflection prompts

🔹 A fun, collectable digital badge (think Dialogue Dynamo or Plotting Pro)

💠 A welcome pack: Everything they need to kick off their writing adventure.

💠 Printable resources: Over 30 guides, prompts, and tips they can stick on the fridge or keep in their notebook – quick-reference support for independent exploration.

💠 Final review with next steps: A thoughtful wrap-up of progress and ideas to help their writing soar.

💠 Certificate of completion: Because every epic story deserves a shiny finish.

The Journey

Over 12 weeks your child will:

✏️ Feel safe exploring and expressing their imagination – a space where ideas can wander, grow, and sparkle without fear.

✏️ Grow as a writer, step by step – building skills and storytelling craft in a gentle, structured way.

✏️ Enjoy having their creativity noticed and celebrated – a mentor who cheers for epic sentences, clever ideas, and bold plots.

✏️ Learn that feedback can be a friend – gaining confidence in revising, reflecting, and experimenting.

✏️ Discover the rhythm of a story – understanding structure, pacing, and character development while keeping their own voice.

✏️ See that their quiet, thoughtful self has a place to shine – because brilliance doesn’t always need to be loud.

This isn’t about rushing, grading, or ticking boxes. It’s about giving your child time, space, and encouragement to write, experiment, and take pride in the stories only they can tell.

Who This Mentorship is For

Scribble Squad (ages 9-12) and Word Rebels (ages 13-16) are designed for thoughtful, imaginative young writers who:

Are happiest with a notebook in hand, quietly reflecting and exploring ideas.
Feel nervous or overwhelmed in group settings or live classes, but loves storytelling.
Have big imaginations that don’t always get the spotlight.
Prefer time to think before responding, and enjoy absorbing feedback at their own pace.
Feel more confident writing than speaking.
Blossom when guidance is gentle, structured, and personal
Want to grow as writers in a safe, supportive environment, without the pressure of grades or competition.

Stories grow differently in quiet places.
Some children have whole worlds in their heads, but freeze when asked to share them aloud. This programme was created for exactly that kind of child – a welcoming space for sensitive, shy, or neurodivergent young writers.

Perfect for families who:

✏️ Want creative freedom and pressure-free learning, where imagination comes first.

✏️ Prefer email-only feedback rather than scheduled sessions to fit into busy lives and schedules.

✏️ Value personalised attention without academic stress.

✏️ Want their child to feel seen, understood, and supported – in a calm, structured environment.

✏️ Appreciate an approach that helps sensitive, quiet, or reflective children thrive.

✏️ Want their child to grow as a writer, build confidence, and feel proud of their stories – all in a space where their unique voice is celebrated.

Hi! I’m Kerry.

I created this programme for the child I used to be.

The shy, quiet one. The anxious one. The one who had entire worlds in her head but didn’t
always have the confidence to share them out loud.

Writing was my safe place – and still is.
It was freedom to imagine, reflect, and express myself. It was where I could think without
interruption, imagine without judgement, and say things I couldn’t always say in a room full of people.

Meet the Founder

Before moving fully into editing and writing, I spent over 20 years working in education, supporting children one-to-one, handling parent-facing roles, and quietly observing all the clever, thoughtful kids who sometimes got overlooked. I learned that growth doesn’t come from pressure. It comes from patience, clarity, and someone steady sitting alongside you.

Today, I’m an author and editor, and a professional member of the CIEP. Editing has taught me how stories are built. Education taught me how confidence is built. This mentorship brings those two things together – along with my lifelong love of storytelling.

It’s structured – because structure helps young writers feel secure. It’s calm – because creativity needs space. It’s personal – because no two children think in exactly the same way.

I’m not here to mark or grade. I’m here to notice what’s working, to gently strengthen what isn’t yet, and to help young writers develop their craft and feel proud of the stories only they can tell.

Because sometimes the quiet children have the biggest stories to tell.
They just need the right space to tell them.
