Heavy Editing/Rewriting

For works needing a full overhaul, significant restructuring, or have been translated into English.
I’ll help your writing flow naturally and smoothly, without losing your voice or intent.

What It Is
Heavy editing/rewriting involves extensively restructuring and rewriting large portions or the entire text to improve clarity, organisation, and overall effectiveness. This level of editing often significantly alters the original wording while preserving the author’s intent.

What You Get
A strong focus on grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation to ensure your manuscript is clear and easy to read.
Rewriting or restructuring where necessary, to ensure sentences sound natural and fluent while preserving your meaning.
Sentence-level clarity and tone adjustments to ensure overall readability and cohesion.

How I Work
My goal as an editor is to strengthen your writing while preserving your voice and intent. Even in heavy editing and rewriting projects, I primarily work through the comment facility to address major restructuring, clarity issues, and broader craft concerns, explaining both what needs attention and why. Tracked changes are used for smaller-scale revisions – such as grammar, syntax, wording, and localized sentence adjustments – or to demonstrate possible rewrites where helpful. This approach allows for substantial improvement and guidance while ensuring you remain fully informed and in control of how the revisions are implemented.

All heavy editing/rewriting services are subject to a sample assessment before booking (one chapter from the middle of your book). If the level of editing required exceeds the standard service upon assessment, the project will be quoted accordingly for your consideration. Please attach your sample chapter when contacting me.

ESL/translated works will always be quoted in the higher category. For the reasoning behind this, please read the article below.

Turnaround
8-12 weeks depending on genre, word count, and complexity of project.

How It Works
Once your slot is confirmed and the contract is signed, you’ll send your manuscript over by the agreed start date. I’ll then get to work. When I’m done, you'll receive a revised version with naturally flowing language, perfectly polished and ready to shine.

Best For
Poorly structured drafts or those written for the wrong audience and in need of a full overhaul.
Authors who have had their book translated and now need it edited to sound natural and fluent in English.
Writers seeking a polished manuscript that resonates with a wider English-speaking audience.

Why ESL Editing is Priced Higher
Editing content written by ESL (English as a Second Language) authors requires a deeper level of engagement than standard proofreading or editing.

It’s not just about fixing grammar or spelling, and often requires closer attention to structure, clarity, and meaning. In these cases, editing often becomes partial rewriting. This means rephrasing awkward or unclear sentences, identifying cultural or linguistic nuances, and sometimes reworking entire sections to ensure the writing flows naturally and communicates effectively.

The level of rewriting needed can also depend on the type of content. Fiction often allows for more
creative freedom, while non-fiction tends to be more structured and detail-driven, especially when the
content includes technical terms or is aimed at a specific audience.

As a result, ESL editing is priced at a higher rate to reflect the additional time, effort and professional
insight necessary to deliver clear, polished, and effective communication. My goal is always to make your work shine - in clear, confident English.

When contacting me, please include a one chapter Word excerpt from the middle of your manuscript. Thank you.
