Developmental Editing

Ready for a deep dive?
You’ve finished your draft, but something isn’t quite right at the root. You feel it, but you can’t quite place what it is. That’s where the developmental edit comes in – and me, with my trusty red pen.

Please note: Currently only for Romance, Women’s Fiction, RomComs, Children’s, Middle Grade, and Young Adult (aka the good stuff)

Completed manuscripts only.

What It Is
A deep-dive, big-picture edit of your entire manuscript that focuses on things like structure, pacing, character development, and worldbuilding.
I take a look at what’s working well, what’s confusing, and what may need refining, then help you get it into shape without losing the essence of your vision.

What You Get
A thorough report full of insight, suggestions, and plenty of kindness.
Feedback on story structure, pacing, character arcs, theme, voice, worldbuilding, and whether your ending actually lands how you hoped.
In-line comments pointing out specific scenes or sentences that need some TLC.
Clear next steps to keep you from a nightmare next draft.

How I Work
My goal as an editor is to strengthen your writing while preserving your voice and creative authority. For that reason, I use a combination of tracked changes and the comment facility to support different aspects of the editorial process. Comments are my primary tool and are used to address big-picture and craft concerns, explain reasoning, and offer guidance for revision. Tracked changes are used selectively to provide illustrative examples at the sentence or paragraph level – such as demonstrating options for clarity, flow, voice, or emotional impact – rather than to impose final wording. This approach allows you to see concrete possibilities while retaining full creative control over the revision.

Pricing
Up to 30,000 words – £700

60,001–90,000 words – £900
Over 90,000 words: +£15 per additional 1,000 words

Turnaround

How It Works
Once your slot is confirmed and the contract is signed, you’ll send your manuscript, in Word format, by the agreed start date. I’ll then get to work. When I’m done, you'll receive a lovely, clear, constructive report tailored to your story.

Best For
Writers seeking clear, actionable feedback on story structure, pacing, or character arcs.
Anyone feeling unsure about whether their story “works” and wanting strategic editorial support.
Writers who’ve finished a draft but suspect something’s not quite working.
Authors who want to make sure the story makes sense before moving on to line editing.
Anyone staring at a messy middle or vague ending, but is too close to see what’s wrong, and just wants honest, clear direction.
